"Quartz Hill Beckons"

The autumn colors were amazing and each day for weeks, I was compelled to hike out with my plein air gear and paint paint paint. It was a fun challenge. This is one of the most magical places I know.
Look what happened when I displayed "Quartz Hill Beckons" in our Chatham County Studio Tour show! I must say, I was very surprised to hear my name called because this painting was among a series that were so filled with joy and fun, they just didn't feel serious enough to warrant the attention. Please don't misunderstand. Painting is a challenge and getting the inner perception to match with what's coming through the brushes can be totally frustrating. It's hard work but also fun and filled with joy.

So here's the experience worth sharing:. This painting was the result of me turning off the "responsibility" voice and tuning into what has been meaningful to my soul. It can feel like a luxury to follow the urgings of an inner voice, but at this particular juncture in my life, it felt like an imperative. I chose to immerse in my devotion for nature, and express that in a painting. Follow your bliss --interesting how much discipline that can take!
