"Cockspur Tree"

While exhibiting at Epcot in Orlando, Florida, Ms Worthington saw this exotic and lively tree in full bloom. The red blossoms resemble the spurs of a rooster, and hence the name of the tree, cock spur, and the title of Nathalie's painting, Cock Spur Tree.

For the interest of the passing crowds, Nathalie set up her easel before the magnificent Cock Spur Tree. Not your typical plein aire set-up, she likes to paint the actual size of her inspiration, so this large painting weighed her studio easel at 15 pounds! It's a large painting on board, with built-in frame. Nathalie had carried all her supplies on a small two-wheel, bungy cord assembly, and created quite a stir for the passers by. The painting quickly took shape and she finished it at her exhibition location in the Flower and Garden Show.

The Cock Spur tree is native to Hawaii and seems to love its location in Epcot. The trunk is a whopping 20" diameter!
